Protecting your Avant loader from the summer heat
Summer 2026 has seen multiple heatwaves in the UK, with temperatures rising to highs of 38°C.
For those working outside, this heat has made even routine tasks much more challenging.
From Finnish winters to tropical summers, Avant loaders are built to perform in demanding environments. However, like all of us, loaders can experience additional strain when exposed to prolonged periods of extreme temperature, particularly if they aren’t maintained or operated correctly.
To help keep your machine performing at its best, we’ve produced a quick guide on how to keep your Avant loader well-maintained and safe for use during periods of intense heat.
Check all fluid levels before commencing work
As with a car, tractor or any other vehicle, you should routinely check all fluid levels before operation.
For diesel-powered models, remember to check engine oil levels with the dipstick, the coolant via the overflow bottle and the hydraulic oil level with the loader boom fully lifted, ensuring the cold fluid reaches the bottom marker line.
Before checking fluid levels, always ensure your Avant loader is parked on a flat surface.
Check engine or battery cooling radiators
It’s also important to regularly check and clean the engine or battery cooling radiators before use.
Debris like dust, grass and dirt can block airflow, causing the machine to overheat – especially during heavy hydraulic use, warm weather and dust-heavy droughts!
To prevent this, first remove side covers and blow out any accumulated debris from the radiator fins using compressed air. Next, inspect the antifreeze overflow bottle to ensure the coolant isn’t running low.
Follow these steps and keep an eye on temperature alerts while working in hot conditions.
Allow your loader to cool down
Just like any machine, your Avant needs a chance to rest – particularly when working in high temperatures or carrying out tasks that place heavy demands on the hydraulic system.
Ensure you stop the machine at regular intervals to allow the loader to cool down and don’t leave the engine running unnecessarily when the loader is not in use.
Pay close attention to alerts
As with any vehicles, you need to pay close attention to warning lights and alerts!
In hot weather, keep an eye on temperature warnings, coolant or hydraulic system alerts and any other indicators that could signal an issue. If a warning appears, stop the machine and act accordingly.
Avant Tecno – your trusted partner for tackling hot summer work
In Finland in 1991, our founder produced the world’s first compact loader – a multi-functional machine designed to tackle a wide range of tasks with ease and efficiency.
